Apple Watch Battery Drain
TL;DR Watch OS 10.3 is in RC, which means it should be out soon. According to developers this update fixes the battery drain issue that was introduced in Watch OS 10.1.
I don’t believe I’ve ever written about Apple Watch before, but back in the days when Microsoft Band existed; I used to do a lot of development for the sensor band. It was discontinued, and that’s how I ended up with an Apple Watch.
I’ve largely been happy with until I updated it to version 10. Like a lot of other people, regardless of which watch they have, my battery started draining after incredible speed. I would charge it to 100%, and without using the watch for anything active, the battery would drop from 100% to 40% in less than a couple of hours. at 38% the watch would just turn itself off. I tried everything I could find online, which includes resetting, uninstalling all third-party apps, turn off any location services and notifications and so on.
Since I happened to be a developer, I checked out the developer forums and there seems to be an update coming soon. It’s currently a release candidate, which means it should be right around the corner, and other devs are saying that it does help the battery drain. I sure hope so, because I can imagine how frustrating it must be for a person who bought the Apple Watch ultra 2 for over $1000 and not being able to use it for more than half day maybe a full day before the battery is completely drained. Circling back to Microsoft band which I mentioned earlier, since it was a sensory band primarily and not so much a device with a display, it had amazing battery life more charged cycles than I would ever need, and it would charge fast as well. The last update I did on it, which was the last update ever before it was discontinued, bricked it and I guess that was the end.
Anyway, I’ll stop writing now, but just know that there’s an update coming soon that will hopefully fix the battery drain. Apple has not addressed the issue despite the numerous forum entries which started appearing mid-October or late October when the broken update was released. I’m just happy if this is fixed soon, as I have an app I’m working on for the watch.
