'Windows/Microsoft support team' calls again (scam call recorded)

This is an old blog post I never published (I simply forgot about it). After getting 2-3 daily calls from ‘MS support’ the last few weeks as a retaliation for me messing with them I decided it was about time I share another recording.

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature. And it works on my machine. But ‘Microsoft support’ can help me. LOL

Sorry for my lack of creativity on this call, I was answering emails, then folding clothes then doing some housework during the call :D It was a long call.

I recorded the conversation for laughs,- hopefully nobody falls for this. Seriously.

Hi, your call has been transferred to the senior technician Mike

First I tell you why we are calling you. Your computer is sending a lot of [mumble] to our technical server. ….Hackers are using it for criminal activity (without your permission)

Your computer is in danger. And your computer CLSID*

Densed down instructions: Type in Window key + R, enter cmd, enter ‘assoc’ (I giggle at ass)

WOW, that is so cool! Is that the hacker window? … WOW, now there is this black window of some sort

I’ll tell you what the CLSID says: 888DCA60-FC0A-11CF-8F0F-00C04FD7D062

YEAH! How did you do that?

Densed down instructions: basically open up eventviewer, and look at Admin Events and looks for errors (which I have plenty of with my XPS 13)

WOW! Who installed this? Did the hackers install this? Because I’ve never seen this before!

Then he wants me to go to support.me and I make him spell a few times for fun before I end the conversation. The site has an RDP client they want you to download, and then gain access to your computer. Obviously not a good idea. I’ll keep a dummy VM handy and let them have fun next time before I ditch the VM. Any suggestions for fun things I can do while having them on the line?*

*Little side-note here. Last call they got seriously pissed with me and said the following *WARNING STRONG LANGUAGE*

I —noise— your father

What?

Your father. ——noise— there!

My dad is in my office? All the way from Norway?

No! I fuck!

You fuck what?

I FUCK

What?

I fuck your father!

….okay….

-Hangs up with a ‘bang’-

My colleagues couldn’t stop laughing as they overheard the whole thing. After that the scammers have been prank calling me on daily basis more or less.

This reminds me of the XKCD comic where he opened his server up and watched all the little viruses for fun!

Scam calls are so annoying, at least you had a little fun!

Got a lot of calls from this Microsoft Support too - maybe the next time i provide the CLSID immediately :-)

The ending was funny! So terrible to think some people fall for this. :/

I had this a couple of years ago. I simply responded "that's impossible - I own a Mac" and hung up.
